In my book, it is bad for families to maintain nepotistic control of supposed democratic republics. Plus Thaksin was convicted of corruption and pretty much exiled for 15 years, so...

Okay, I can understand that. The article said he was given 8 years for corruption, but only served one. Then the king pardoned him. Must be friends?

This is the strongest monarchy on the planet. The king still runs things. Always. They will imprison one for speaking badly of the king.
