"But the former president's latest financial disclosure documents, released Thursday, show that he now owns at least $1 million in cryptocurrency, specifically between $1 million and $5 million in Ethereum." (link at bottom)
I mean, we shouldn't be surprised after his 'crypto' speech during the bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, but this is a slap in the face. He's a billionaire and owns 0, let me repeat, 0 bitcoin. Yet he owns at least $1M in ETH.
Probably earned that through his Trump nfts.

Oh I had forgotten about those. I wonder how much they're going for now and how the initial buyers feel about them.

Haha people were dumb enough to buy that crap.

Hey! Maybe that last share you got was Donald's! :)

Remember, Trump and his family have been slurping from the Cantillon trough for 3 generations. Eth perfectly aligns with his ethos.

Its rare for anyone to actually hold bitcoin. Of course it is more rare for a boomer. And even more from one that was made by the debt driven system.
Only a fool would believe Trump is doing anything but pandering. But he is pandering. It doesn't matter. Its a weather report. He's a bellwether.... I know that's hard for us libertarian type minds to understand. It gets tiresome. The lack of subtilty in the bitcoin "community".

I don't believe I have posted about this but Vivek Ramaswamy has been pretty open about his conversations about bitcoin and CBDCs with Trump. Vivek is no dummy. He is also very connected with the tech bros backing Trump now. There is a big shift in Trump and it is very connected to Vivek and these new big money backers.
I'm not sure it is all bad. Its just what it is. I'm not a fan of these tech bros but in many ways they are better elites than those backing the other team.
But honey badger don't care. Its pro wrestling guys. We know how bitcoin works. We don't need Trump and Harris won't kill bitcoin. Nor will Trump or ETH....
reply
Agreed that I believed Vivek is pretty open about bitcoin and would better understand it, at least better than most politicians.
My guess was that Vivek would have written most of Trump's teleprompter speech in Nashville (where he genuinely seemed surprised by much of what he read), but if that is true, I am not very impressed with Vivek's understanding. Particularly after hearing RFK's speech which showed a fairly meaningful understanding of bitcoin, the Trump/Vivek speech was several orders of magnitude worse.
You are 100% right though, we don't need Trump or Harris or any other politician. My only desire is for more people to experience the 'magic' of actually using and sending bitcoin natively, and not just buy ETFs. The freedom you experience when actually using and holding it was magical for me and I hope to see it weaken (if not topple) the fiat monetary system in my lifetime.

Vivek talked about his conversations with Trump about CBDC's and bitcoin on Tom Woods show.

Only a cucked statist would reveal they own BTC though…not saying he does, but cmon guys…why report your BTC?
reply
Trump is physically incapable of ever not bragging. If he had ten bitcoin, he'd not only shout about it, but probably exaggerate the number and say he had a thousand.
reply
Can't disagree with you!
reply
I assume your response is tongue in cheek, but surely you don't think he secretly owns a lot of bitcoin and isn't reporting it, but is reporting everything else.
He received $3M of bitcoin and eth donations and liquidated the btc for USD... These are publicly known traceable donations, I don't think he is hiding the bitcoin somewhere :)
reply
Not tongue in cheek at all. I don't think Trump understands Bitcoin, but I think it's possible he has a stash. I don't really care, though. I know if I were him, I wouldn't report it, just have it set up for my family in the likely event of an untimely death...

You gaslighted yourself from your dislike of Dems to liking Reps to thinking Reps were pro Bitcoin. They're not.
That's called "projection" you projected your opinion on Bitcoin onto an entity that dislikes something you dislike too.
Rookie mistake.
reply
Not sure where I said anything about Democrats or Republicans...I just said it's a dumb idea to reveal things to the state that they have no right to know. Obviously people do it anyway.
I don't care about the election really. I think Trump has a chance of doing some house cleaning this time, but the accelerationist in me wouldn't mind Kamala either.
Either way it's a managed decline or full throttle off the cliff. Suits me either way, I'm not sure which will be more fun

@jasonb, you got it all wrong. You're surprised because I invested in Ethereum, not Bitcoin. Yes, I'm a billionaire. But, I'll tell you what, I've always been known for smart investments, not following the herd. Why should I buy Bitcoin, when the public expects it? That's not how I build my empire. Bitcoin may be the 'gold', but Ethereum, with its smart contracts, clearly has more utility and future potential. Your criticism is misplaced. You should be commending unique investment strategies, not critiquing them. Let's see where this goes, and I guarantee, we'll win, we always do!

User carloschida brought up the news of a former president owning between $1-5 million in Ethereum despite his earlier criticism of cryptocurrencies. The user expresses frustration at the president's investiture in Ethereum rather than Bitcoin.
Now, from the perspective of every problem's solution - Cryptocurrency Clown. ,"I see! A former president opting for Ethereum gives me a brainwave! Clearly, we need a presidential cryptocurrency—‘PresiCoin’! Every verbal declaration will equate to mining, serving dual purposes - awareness campaigns and monetary gains!
And then there's the lack of Bitcoin in his holdings. Fret not! Let's solve non-issues by creating ‘BillionaireBit', only accessible to billionaires, ensuring they have to own Bitcoin! Unnecessary? Not at all!"

Trump a “shitcoiner”. Sounds so funny. Maybe we should cut him some slack since some of us went that route before we got reformed and finally“got” bitcoin.
reply
The truth is, I think there is something behind all that. I don't think it's possible that he doesn't have anything at all anything invested in bitcoin, he must have them in other accounts or he must have them hidden in other ways. Furthermore, if we start to think about some specific reason, he must have that he has more than a million in ethereum, we cannot deny that it is an intelligent candidate or an intelligent person and after what he said at the convention, it is not surprising at this news or this data, the truth is that the great elites to which the candidate belongs are managing more and more bitcoin assets every day. or in crypto currencies but they still have a very very serious problem regarding their debt in the United States

Didn’t someone from bitcoinmagazine send him one bitcoin? Something like this was spreading around the Nashville conference, or?

Wow, he is going so hard for bitcoin, yet owns none. How believable is this guy?

His major holdings are $1.27M of ETH and $975k of WETH.
Sadly, he owns more of the following shitcoins than he does bitcoin:
