Nice retro analysis.
I remember learning about pixels, sprites and seeing my mother's crossstitch patterns thinking that that was a great way to develop images. Also the Dungeons and Dragons games used graph paper for developing dungeon maps so there's that, too from the 1970s.

I saw this thread last week. There's something so satisfying about pointillism generally. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe it's that continuity is an illusion? Or just that it makes conscious the constraints of perfectionism.

The Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster bundle was so real for having a "CRT style" graphics menu option.
Playing was nostalgic already but turning that on REALLY took me back for a minute.
