Life is good everywhere when you have money. California takes multiples more money to have the same quality of life. So for the average person, absolutely.
Yeah a buddy of mine who had a VP job at Novartis left Toronto to work in SF for a few years. In Toronto which is still an expensive city. He had a 1200sqft condo on the 50th floor in one of the premier buildings downtown. When he went to the bay area all he could get for the same price was a 800sqft condo on the 3rd floor in Oakland. He ended up transferring to another division and moving to Texas a couple years later. Now he is working for some biotech company and splits time between the office in Texas and in Columbus Ohio.
