it's not the Berlin wall of information, the analogy is book printing. Literally.
When book printing came up, the Catholic Church fought tooth and nail against the "unwashed" masses having access to the distribution of written materials, which until then had of course been mostly the domain of monks, writing copies.
It came with a literal "fake news" panic, just like today, where the Church called these newly printed pamphlets unauthorized, false, blaspehmous, etc.
In the wake of this. there were cases adjudicated against these who would now dare to distribute unauthorized information; many were executed.
The legacy media is dogmatic defense of structural power. Literally.
