The caveat to this whole thing in my mind is that the SDF consists of mostly Kurdish individuals. While the Kurds have been betrayed by the US so many times this time they are super well equipt and maintain I believe the two largest prisons holding ISIS members and sympathizers. Syria and Iran wouldn't want those people to be freed so while some areas can/are being attacked others are safe from those two groups essentially since they do not want to have ISIS members running around again.
Not to mention the SDF and Syria forces tend to link up whenever Turkey tries to push further into Syria because while they are ethnically different they both hate Turkey and what they are doing even more.
The considerable amount of variables is mindblowing.

Reading about it is pretty fascinating. One thing that always prevails though is that the whole geographic area throughout history has been one of conquest even predating the Abrahamic religions. Other areas in the world have had conquests, empires, and border changes but nothing along the scope of the Middle East.
