This same thing happened to me. You have to talk to him even if just to make sure he doesn't get catfished like my dad did. He lost 2.5 Bitcoin to a scammer pretending to be a hot babe privacy infuencer.

At a previous office I consulted for, and mid-level exec...VP got caught in Nigerian scam. It came to a head when 2 FBI agents showed up to the office to request an interview with him....caused by him calling the bank that morning telling them to be on the lookout for a 105M wire coming in from Nigeria into his personal checking account.
The FBI agents explained to him that he was a fraud victim and the 10-20k "fees" he had spent on his "nigerian lawyers" was a scam.
He was otherwise a smart and capable person....it was hard to believe he fell for it, but evidently its a popular scam for a reason.

Agreed, it's a great excuse to explain some of the online scams and stay safe.
