When I posted this the article had misrepresented the facts to some extent. Clearly everyone has an agenda here on both sides. However, to allow this person to compete as a woman ignores reality. There is an obvious and unfair advantage that they are seeking to capitalize on. In 1968 would it have been fair for George Foreman to fight as a featherweight, because he felt discriminated against because of his height and weight? Maybe he always felt like a featherweight? It violates all sense of sport and fair play.

I understand the frustration. Interestingly, the European media hasn't tried to fit it into the culture or gender wars that seem to run amok in the US. At a simple level, for all of human history, this woman would have been considered a woman due to having female sexual organs. It's only since the discovery of genetics and metabolomics that we have finer understanding of borderline phenotypes. Personnally, I think gender doesn't exist and everyone should compete against everyone (keep age and weight categories). But if you believe gender is a binary thing, then technically she is a woman.
reply
I see your point. I do think gender is a binary thing, but you're right that she would have been considered female through most of history.
reply
I’m not so sure.
Through most of history people would have used the eye test and common sense and ostracized her as a circus freak
reply
In the context of fight sports or actual combat, she would have been considered a goddess of war for her ability to crush skulls. And yes, I don't think gender as a category exists. It's a distribution with two peaks along a spectrum. I am a biologist. I don't care about your insecurities. By the way, if you say she should not compete because it's unfair. Then you are saying we should do genetic testing on all previous medallists and record holders across all sports to see if they were genetically advantaged and stripped of their medals and records. For fairness. That's silly.
reply
Watch the video and tell yourself that gender as a category exists
reply
And what does have that to do with anything? I know you're confused about all this, but please try to focus on the topic at hand.
reply
The man is clearly bigger and stronger and more aggressive than the female victim
reply
Any large woman with an inclination towards violence will beat the shit out of a smaller male with no fight training or violent bend. Proves nothing and off topic. No offense. When the IOC has to rule on whether to allow an athlete compete, they have to consider the rules in place at the moment. Not culture wars or ideologies. Fact of the matter is until proven otherwise, Imene Khelif is a woman by the definition currently used in sports. You don't make rules up as you go, based on eyes tests, BECAUSE of fairness in sports.
You are ignoring 'her' XY chromosome
"She" is genetically advantaged vs normal women
If you think gender as a category shouldn't exist, this person should box vs men
Let's put her in actual combat! No one will object. There is no world where she is considered a goddess of anything.
The IBA already disqualified her. IOC decided to overrule them for clown world reasons.
reply
No such thing as a XY chromosome. But don't let that get in the way of spreaing your confused ideology.
reply
You think gender should not exist and my ideology is confused
reply
You don’t actually believe gender does not exist.
You are repeating a transgender talking point
reply
The X and Y chromosomes exist for a reason, denying biology only sets us back as a species and catapult all the previous studies carried out by people who took science seriously.
reply
Me? No. I think there are two genders. I think the point he was making was that science couldn't prove the boxer was male until recently. You also made a good point about common sense. Circus freak went a little too far, though, in my opinion. The person was apparently born that way. The simple fact is that having the person compete as a woman violates the whole idea of fair competition.
reply
Not you. The other guy or person who doesn’t believe in gender
reply
Oh. I see. Okay, then circus freak is fine😀jk
