As tensions heighten between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah, the US government is actively working to prevent further escalation. John Kirby, Communications Director for the National Security Council, emphasized the need for a diplomatic resolution.
With the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, Kirby stated, "We don't want a second front to open in the north." The US has engaged in extensive discussions with various parties to mitigate the situation, believing escalation and a broader conflict are avoidable.
Over the weekend, an attack on the Golan Heights resulted in the deaths of at least twelve children and teenagers. Israel attributes the attack to Hezbollah, which denies involvement. Kirby affirmed, "The attack was carried out by Hezbollah, despite their denials. Israel has the right to defend itself and will decide its response. However, this incident need not lead to a broader war."
