Look, I don't want to make this a political post. I admit I'm not a huge Donald Trump fan, but I don't like any of these candidates. This hat really angers me for reasons way beyond Trump or this election. The obvious implication is that bitcoin needs saving. That it somehow used to be great and is no longer great. Bitcoin was fine before US politicians discovered it, and it will be fine when they lose interest. For this brief moment bitcoin is somehow MAGA?
I hope these hats don't catch on, even if it skyrockets the fiat price.
Am I overreacting?

They aren't even orange!

I think the whole point is to trigger people and be sort of a joke. I’d buy one if it were orange.

Now you're talking.

reply

Yeah, that makes sense.

reply

You may be right, but that red hat and slogan is a powerful symbol. It has the ability to turn half the country against bitcoin

reply

Unmarried cat ladies are not 50% of America

reply

Okay. 40%

reply

Pareto principle says 20% and they can hfsp

reply

Maybe the perceived importance of this whole thing depends on where you live.

They are at least 50 percent of D

reply

Nah that's a Psyop, total mirage

reply

Half the country hates bitcoin. Socialists and conservatives included. I’ve met conservatives who think bitcoin is NSA psych operation. Or they think it’s a scam. I tell them study bitcoin before you make dumb statements

reply

Yeah I think you're right. I know some young guys that don't take Trump seriously at all but just got a kick out of the reactions when they would wear Trump stuff.

People are so wound up about him. It is funny to watch people act in that way.

reply

Orange is the new red

reply

These hats may have earned some good bucks to the sellers! That's all they are doing! If they don't even know that Bitcoin has been the most successful thing in last 15 years, what can we expect from them? Bitcoin was, is and will be great with or without politics.

reply

This is my sense, too. It's a cynical cash grab, more than anything else.

reply

It's annoyingly sad! Isn't it?

reply

Years ago I heard about a libertarian that set up two swag sites. One pro Trump and one anti Trump. So funny.

reply

Who was he???

reply

I've seen this hat in a profile photo of an author on bitcoin.com.. e.g. Bitcoin Cash. Makes sense that big blockers want to make it great, although blocks had that limit for a long time.

reply

I hadn't considered this angle.

reply

I think there was a blonde girl who got attacked at some protest at a university in Cali wearing one of those in 2016. Coincides with his first election and the block size war I believe.

reply

Really? I thought these things were new. Do you have a link? I'll look too.

reply

I think you are overreacting.

reply

Fair enough. Do you like the hats, or do you just think they're no big deal? Just noise?

reply

No big deal. I don't wear this kind of hats myself.

reply

Nor do I. Maybe it's where I live, but I have seen people become infuriated in stores or on the street by someone who wears a maga hat. I do live in an obnoxiously blue area. I guess my biggest problem is that I don't want bitcoin to be politically polarizing to people who don't understand it yet.

reply

Guess there is also difference between us by me not being American, so I may see things totally differently.

reply

Orange is a better color than red for bitcoin hats

reply

I see some positivity there. They've just replaced America with Bitcoin. May be a Bitcoin Country in the making. Trump has been suggesting about it!

reply

That's one way of looking at it. For me, it implies that Trump will save bitcoin. Bitcoin doesn't need saving from anyone, and especially not a politician. Some people see it as all in fun, and I respect that, but I disagree. I think the political climate in the US doesn't leave room for this kind of fun.

reply

Yes, you're right but I'm taking this for fun! Instead I see it as a danger when such flip-flop person talks about something that he doesn't understand at all.

reply

I don't think you are overreacting. I hope people don't get caught up in politics and the demogogs making big proclimations. All that said, most people have to learn the hard way and some never seem to learn. Many bitcoiners are still statists. Some of the biggest name and holders are as well. We can't and won't jump to the absolute. But bitcoin doesn't care. Doesn't need these politions.

Grab the popcorn. What is happening now says more about the power of bitcoin and bitcoiners than these demogogs. There will be a day if we are right about bitcoin when most political figures are "pro bitcoin".

reply

In the end I think you're right.

reply

Yeah, I'm with you. I'm not a Trump fan at all, which certainly is a factor, but it's the framing of Bitcoin as something needing rescuing, as well as it being secondary to Trump here that bothers me. An orange hat (or even a red one) saying "Bitcoiners for Trump" or somesuch would reframe things is a way that makes it clear that the message is coming from someone actually on the Bitcoin train.

reply

Exactly. As a practical matter, the hat has the power to turn half of US voters against bitcoin.

reply

Trump is speaking today in Nashville

reply

Keep Bitcoin Great would be a better slogan.

reply

This is LOL culture there!!

reply

They should have written 'Bitcoin will Make America Great Again' instead of writing this. But, they just wanted to hold that America must be greater than Bitcoin which is a uneducated man's lie!

reply

I don't like hats at all.

would buy this for the next halving party only šŸ˜‚

reply

Trump will do anything to get your vote.
He is just going about it the wrong way.
He should just stick to his MAGA hat.

reply

That's it. Vote Bitcoin.

reply

The question is: when wasn't great that we need to make it great again ?

reply

I agree with you, half and half! It is true that this politics in Bitcoin, is not liked at all! But in the end Bitcoin is a tool, and it is free, it can be used by everyone. If that is what DT needs to overthrow the Democratic-Socialists, he is free to use it. And then we as individuals must not lose focus of freedom and decentralization once the Governments begin to embrace Bitcoin. Because believe me, the savior was the experiment, and now if the US embraces Bitcoin, it will be a matter of time to see a chain reaction of other countries following in the footsteps of old Uncle Sam.

Great way to piss of those Democrats
