You'd be shocked if you knew the degree to which college administrators and faculty knowingly admit and retain students who have no shot at finishing, just to keep the financial aid revenue flowing.
It's really sick.
Is it really that high? I dont think financial aid should ne given to some subjects...some need to die out.
reply
It depends on the institution, but at open enrollment universities and community colleges it can be really alarming.
reply
Some majors like womans studies, psychology, and communications.... Pretty worthless majors.
reply
I agree, but that's a different issue. At time of admission, schools have a very good idea of a student's odds of completing a degree. They wildly mislead low probability students about those odds and then encourage them to take on as much financial aid as possible.

I remember starting my major with 93 students, was down to 29 by the time we graduated.
reply
That’s pretty much the norm
reply
Well, maybe for my major. I dont know how many of them ended up dropping out. I know some transferred majors.

It’s been a while since I checked these numbers, but only a little over 1/3 of students graduate.
