There are people like this everywhere. It can be shocking but it is not rare. Much more rare than it used to be, thankfully. These people do not hide their hatred. What makes it hard is when media and politicians use these terms to smear people that they don't agree with. It gives a false impression as well as weakens the public's trust. It removes the power of these words.
We saw this in the presidential debate when Biden misrepresented Trump's often misquoted "very fine people" comment. It is easily debunked when you watch his comment in context but because people want to believe it, Biden has lied about this for the past 4 years. It really destroys credibility.
I live in a very progressive state but I can recall my dad telling me a KKK group was camping in the mountains near us. I'd rather know who these people are. Let them tell us. That's why I prefer Nostr over centrally moderated platforms like Twitter. Then I can see what people really think.
