I can see why that is very tedious in the moment, but worthwhile later.
I had one oral exam in grad school (not counting dissertation defense) and the lead-up to it was terrifying.
Do you remember a question or two that caught you off guard?

No, it turned out to be a pretty straightforward recitation of proofs from the lectures. If it had been a test of my understanding, I would have been screwed.
