Did you know that more than 50 million inscriptions were created to mint and transfer BRC-20 tokens? Did you know that these inscriptions are meaningless after their initial use, stuck in UTXOs near the dust limit?
The Background
BRC-20 tokens were built on top of inscriptions. To do anything with the tokens, you must make an inscription. For example, you make an inscription to deploy a token, with the parameters you want. Then, you and others can create inscriptions to mint the token, according to the parameters. Finally, to send or trade the tokens, you must create a transfer inscription to facilitate it.
However, BRC-20 tokens are assigned to your wallet address, not the UTXOs. After minting or receiving a transfer, those inscriptions no longer mean anything to your token balance. These inscriptions are then sitting in your wallet in small UTXOs, containing too few sats to pay the fees to spend them.
The Solution
Donate BRC is cleaning up the UTXO set by aggregating these junk inscriptions into donations. Collecting enough of these small UTXOs together, especially with the currently low gas fees, sizeable UTXOs can be created. Get rid of these useless inscriptions and donate to the Human Rights Foundation or the Open Ordinals Institute.
When you go to Donate BRC, you select which organization(s) to donate to, then provide a signature. The signature is an ALL | ANYONE_CAN_PAY type, so they must be sent to the address of the organization indicated, but more inputs can be added to cover the full amount and gas fees.
Let's clean up the UTXO set together! I would appreciate any feedback on the site or suggestions of other organizations that take donations in BTC.
