native indians had the psychedelic ritual coupled with survival in the woods. jewish orthodox have the study and recital of torah. middle eastern traditions have the pilgrimage to mecca. various tradition-oriented cultures have their great rites of passage.
what is the western-world equivalent of a man's rite of passage? i am led to believe that in the western world, we do not teach of even think of teaching our children and men in general how to go through any rite of passage. we have fake rites of passage, such as submitting (submission) an application (a plea) for a driver's license (permission) - this is absolutely laughable and pathetic!
our desperate women are left with a choice among slaves of men rather than a choice among men. no wonder men's psychological health is deteriorating.
while studying the natural law, trust law, and even parts of statutory law, i am beginning to believe that claiming, establishing, asserting rights as a living man is the equivalent of a western rite of passage. the words expressed with our own voice and words expressed in our own writing are that rite of passage.
now, with bitcoin, we have code. in bitcoin, code is law. in bitcoin, the ultimate expression of rights is the inalienable ownership of private keys. in bitcoin, claiming and defending your private keys is the rite of passage. nonetheless, this is not widely recognized. until we get to hyperbitcoinization, we may have to claim our rights by learning and teaching the law. it's difficult, i know; that's the point - rites of passage are inherently challenging.
going deeper into this idea, we are all born with an understanding of natural language. the original natural language was pictographic (look up paleo-hebrew, or proto-sumerian). "a picture is worth 1000 words." there's something profound in the idea of "putting truth in art." when we have reduced our thoughts to words, a primitive unit, we have essentially enslaved ourselves, by thinking in words rather than ideas packed with infinite complexity. the ultimate right of passage is the right of creation without permission.
as we think, so we feel, so we act.
this territory is moderated
masculine rite of passage is creation of self-defense entities by whatever means necessary without permission
feminine rite of passage is creation of non-aggressive entities by whatever means available without permission
this refers to masculine & feminine polarities within us, but can also be in reference to men and women.

Reminds me of "The Disappearance of Rituals", by Byung-Chul Han.
In this book he says the disappearance of rituals is due to the weakening of the communities and the isolation of individuals. It's not uncommon, specially in big cities, neighbors that are strangers to one another living inches from each other. Without a community to validate your rites of passage, what's the point of having rites of passage?
Byung-Chul Han has lots of interesting insights and is a prolific author. Give it a try. He is most known for his book titled "Burnout society".

It my family it comes when you have the ability to feed a family - not monitarily. It is around 11 or 12 years of age after you've tracked, harvested, field dressed, transported, and then cleaned and butchered a deer on your own. By then we were expert with fish and small game, but a whole deer is hella work.

dealing with a deer would be very cool! i hope to start with a squirrel that i trap or get with a slingshot.
reply
We started with squirrels!

travelling might be considered a rite since many young people from the west take 6 months off after studying to travel the world

Please, please expand on this! This is one of the big problems in the West!

at a fundamental level, the man's rite of passage is defeat of the enemy, in self-defense. sometimes the enemy is our environment, sometimes it's an army of barbarians, and sometimes it's a legal attack. "the pen is mightier than a sword" - that is true, because a pen can mind-control you into submission by bluffing.
Sun Tzu wrote that "all warfare is deception." he also wrote "know thy enemy."
