That's not a very strong argument based on the limited info you are providing here.
I'm far from an expert on Indian history but my understanding is that the British like most empires made arbitrary unions across ethic groups pushing groups into one system. Then when they left India things really fell apart. There was a civil war which led to the formation of Pakistan.
I'm not saying you are right or wrong. I can see there might be positives of the British occupation but also I have serious issues with colonization and arbitrary centralized decisions being forced on millions of people who never gave their consent.
Do you think the US would have been better off if it had remained a collection of British colonies? Seems like a hard argument to prove either way.

But look at how other colonies have flourished like Canada and Australia and New Zealand, Hong Kong , Singapore
The British did a good job with most colonies in setting them up for autonomy and success.
Regarding USA, if we remained a colony with representation and autonomy, maybe USA would have been better off.
Tough to say because USA became economic superpower after the civil war. By 1898 USA had surpassed Great Britain has the largest economy in the world
