Point is other countries have upped their game
The emphasis on shooting especially 3 point shot has disproportionately benefitted Europeans and other foreigners
The gap was widest in 1992 Olympic games but everyone loved it. The Dream Team made basketball international.

Agree gap has shrunk and continues to shrink compared to 30 years ago.
