pull down to refresh

Previously, I wrote about my perfect work day. Because I was trying to center and ground myself, I didn’t really know why I felt so satisfied about that particular day. The best I could do was to identify pertinent aspects that contributed to my satisfaction.
Fast forward a few months. I think my haphazard and hazy ideas have marinated into something more definite. Today, I can honestly say that I felt good about my work day because I consciously fulfilled each of these 3 Cs: Cleanse, Connect and Create.
1. Cleanse
Read a few pages of the book I’m currently reading and tore them to park in my recycling bag. I have embarked on this war to keep my office table slick and span. Am determined to finish reading all those books lying sadly neglected on my shelf and recycle them after extracting the wisdom from them.
An uncluttered work space makes for a focused mind.
2. Connect
As a teacher, I’m perpetually busy, but I took time out to prepare my Chairman for an upcoming presentation we were scheduled to do. I also prepared two other students for next month’s Spelling Bee by drilling them on the Q and U stick like glue spelling rule as well as words with the -y suffix. To round things up, I had a chat with yet another student whose birthday was today. I checked in with him about his reliance on gaming and tried to determine if his habits were a cause for concern.
Burnt-out teachers pull away from their students when they are overwhelmed with an intense to-do list. I love it that I have the capacity to chat with my students and perhaps deepen our relationship.
3. Create
I only had 20 minutes before the school bell rang for dismissal, but I went ahead to create a poster that exemplifies my understanding of the -ough sound. I’m convinced that only I can create this particular poster because I added in several elements that I had obtained as a literacy coach for dyslexics. I love doing unique work that contributes to my students’ lives.
There you have it. If I Cleanse, Connect and Create every day, my work life might become a paradise.
