LNBits added support for it as a backend. So all LNBits apps (dozens) are now in a very real sense "built on top of" phoenixd. (They were just originally built on top of other things.)

be sure to understand the liquidity examples and how channels are paid for (the credit system can be a bit confusing, specially with implementations like lnbits where you're shown a balance but its unspendable as its just a credit that will be used for an actual channel purchase when there is enough of it

I use it as one of my funding sources for my LNbits instance. The great thing is that it’s extremely lightweight so you can spin up a LNbits instance and a phoenixd server on most of the cheap VPS providers. You can also use it as a backup funding source for when you have issues with liquidity or your main node is down. Actually would be a nice feature of LNbits to have a fallback mechanism that automatically switches to a different funding source when there is issues with the main one.

I'm currently working on a cashu mint implementation, and plan to add a phoenixd adapter to handle lightning transactions.

Considering how few Lightning app devs there are and how recently it came out, I’d guess no one is using it in production yet.
