They sought a loyal and reliable figurehead, a flag of convenience, under which they could sail the progressive vessel into the deepest reaches of American life — on a mission to advance statism, climate extremism and self-lacerating wokery. There was no more loyal and convenient vehicle than Joe”.
I find myself in the odd position of wanting to root for poor mumbling Joe … It’s tempting to say to the Democratic machine frantically mobilizing against him: You don’t get to do this. You don’t get to deceive, dissemble and gaslight us for years”.
this territory is moderated
I find myself rooting for old Joe too. He won the delegates. It's the fault of the party for not having a real primary, by shutting out RFK and other potential candidates. They created this situation, this doom loop and now they are stuck with the primary winner.
Highlights from the article:
The 1970s and 1980s were the point at which the long arc of traditional liberalism gave place to an avowedly illiberal, mechanical ‘control system’ (managerial technocracy) that today fraudulently poses as liberal democracy.
Emmanuel Todd, the French anthropological historian, examines the longer dynamics to events unfolding in the present: The prime agent of change leading to the Decline of the West (La Défaite de l’Occident), he argues, was the implosion of ‘Anglo’ Protestantism in the U.S. (and England), with its entailed habits of work, individualism and industry – a creed whose qualities were held then to reflect God’s grace through material success, and, above all, to confirm membership of the divine ‘Elect’...
However, the incoming doctrine that only a wealthy financial élite, tech experts, leaders of multinational corporations and banks possess the required foresight and technological understanding to manipulate a complex and increasingly controlled system changed politics completely...
The reality was very different. Of course, states can ‘live a lie’ for a long period. The underlying problem is that you can be successful in deceiving and manipulating public perceptions, but only up to a point...
Politico tells us: “Biden’s insular senior team are well acquainted with the longtime aides who continue to have the president’s ear: Mike Donilon, Steve Ricchetti and Bruce Reed, as well as Ted Kaufman and Klain on the outside”...
The key Faustian bargain: the pretence of a liberal democracy operating in tandem with a ‘classic’ liberal economy versus the reality of an illiberal oligarchic leadership sitting atop a hyper-financialised corporate economy that has both sucked the life from the classic organic economy, and created toxic inequalities too.

The overnight collapse is a sign of a preference cascade, https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/preference_cascade.
A good example is Ceausescu’s last speech on Dec 21, 1989. He was executed 4 days later.

Yikes. Someone's mad. Whoever was gaslit about Biden's capacity for leadership is not one to talk. The guy even refers to himself as "Jill's husband". Lol people really have to start thinking for themselves bc this is crazy.

It’s odd. On one hand I think it is ridiculous and cruel for Biden to be a candidate. On the other hand I think the democrat party should be duly punished for their deceit and gaslighting in order to preserve power over the last 4 years.

Exactly the same with me. I keep going back and forth between feeling sorry for the old bastard and realizing what a master of raw power he was and still is, despite his diminished cognition. His family was able to muster not so subtle threats to make sure he remains the candidate. He calls Trump a selfish narcissist (he is), but Trump can't hold a candle to this guy.

Why does politics seems to attract the worst possible people? Incentives?

It really is a crime family mentality. All the powerful political families share that trait.

Yes, these people are not qualified to do anything else
If they are qualified to do something else, they must score high on Dark Triad personality
Politics is Hollywood for average looking people
We are approaching FDR territory in 1945. He never should have run in 1944, shame on the voters for not choosing Dewey or third party. The Yalta Conference was in February 1945. Stalin must have thought I can walk over this guy. Churchill probably thought I need a drink, I need to do all the talking about Poland etc.
