It's Saturday, thus it is poll day!
I want to do a poll series, so this will be the first of four. The series focuses in on the top young players in each sport. Let's start with the NBA, then do MLB next week (since it will be right before the all star game), then NHL and finally NFL as we will be closing in on preseason games by then.
You are starting a franchise from scratch and you get to select one young NBA player (under 25yrs old) for your roster. Ignore current contract status and assume this player will be with your team for the next 10 years as you try to build a champion from scratch. Who do you choose?
Victor Wembanyama (20)40.0%
Anthony Edwards (22)30.0%
Tyrese Haliburton (24)0.0%
Zion Williamson (24)0.0%
Tyrese Maxey (23)20.0%
Paolo Banchero (21)0.0%
Scottie Barnes (22)10.0%
Ja Morant (24)0.0%
Evan Mobley (23)0.0%
Other (comment)0.0%

Here are my ranks.
Edwards Wemby Haliburton Maxey Banchero Barnes Zion (because of injuries) Mobley Morant (because he is a moron)

I hope Ja gets his shit together, but obviously I see that the same way you do.

I've just picked someone. Ñ know if he's the best of bests. Scottie is my pick!!

Great player for my Raptors so I am not going to argue but would probably be 5th or 6th on my list if I had to rank them.
Would be fun to rank them 1-9. @Undisciplined @gnilma

I like the name 'Scottie', so just went with him. You now my knowledge won't allow me pick me on the talent.
I can rank them by their names if you permit me!

Wemby Edwards Maxey Haliburton Banchero Zion Barnes Mobley Morant

I like this. Personally I went with Ant Man number 1 but I don't think you can go wrong with either. I had Barnes and Zion flipped and Maxey and Haliburton flipped.

Yea, I think you can't go wrong with Wemby or Ant at number 1. I picked Wemby because I really enjoyed watching him play last season, and am excited to see what CP3 can help bring out of him.
I didn't really factor in injury and felt that Zion has an edge over Barnes due to size and athleticism. The way Zion is able to dominate the paint is quite enjoyable to watch. Barnes is still awesome though, but I just thought Zion has an edge over him.
The way Maxey stepped up when Embiid went down in the regular season, and the way he went clutch in one or two games at the end of the game against the Knicks in the playoffs made me pick him over Haliburton.

Good reasoning. I am excited to see how Wemby performs in year 2.

  1. Wemby
  2. Ant
  3. Haliburton
  4. Zion
  5. Paolo
  6. Mobley
  7. Maxey
  8. Barnes
  9. Ja

Woah Mobley ahead of Barnes and Maxey. Maybe based on talent alone but he needs to step it up.
reply
I was thinking that it's easier to find scorers than extremely versatile 7-footers. I'm not very confident that he'll be better than Maxey, but I think he's a better building block.
reply
Ok I like that logic. I am also surprised you had Zion so high. I had him 7 due to all the injuries. He might be number 1 if he didn't get injured all the time.
reply
It's tough. Zion's shown that he can be one of the most dominant guys in the league and no one below him has.
I tend to be pretty skeptical of potential. I like to actually see it.
Wemby vs Ant was the toughest one for me, because I'm concerned about Wemby's long-term durability. Ant, on the other hand, looks indestructible, plus we know he has the mentality.
reply
I had Antman first and Wemby second. It will be interesting to see how Wemby holds up. I don't think you could go wrong with either pick.

Never thought I'd ever say this but I'm watching an WNBA game (at work)... Caitlin Clark with first ever rookie triple-double...
reply
Nice. Glad she is playing well. I haven't really been following.

It's extra fun because of the whites vs woke battles on twitter constantly arguing about whether she's getting attention and unfair treatment, good and bad, for merit or because of the color of her skin.
Definitely bringing way more eyeballs to the game which is otherwise a snoozefest.
reply
She is attracting viewers on television and at the arena
That makes her a top priority for women’s basketball
reply
IMO, Wembanyama is a good player.
reply
Can't go wrong with that pick.

Maxey looked unstoppable at times against the Knicks. Almost choose ant man but went with what I saw against my team
