Thrilling match between Germany and Spain. It started pretty bad for Spain as Pedri suffered an injury, after a tackle from Kroos, and had to leave early in the match. However, the substitute, Dani Olmo, became the player of the match. He scored a goal in the second half and gave the assist to Mikel Merino to make a very late goal at the end of the match (minute 119). As a curiosity, Merino´s father scored a goal at the same stadium, 33 years ago, when he was playing for Osasuna and celebrated the goal as yesterday: running around the flag situated in one of the corners. It is the first time in history that Spain beats a host during a tournament (Euro Cup or World Cup).
The second match, between Portugal and France, ended goalless after the 120 minutes of play. I think that Portugal was reminding the previous round where Diogo Costa had an extraordinary performance. This time could not repeat it and João Félix missed his penalty. France went through to SF and will play against Spain on Tuesday 9th July, 21:00 CET.
Today, England will play against Switzerland at 18:00 CET. Swiss team have been playing well and England will have to raise their game to avoid leaving the tournament at this stage. They are strong enough to qualify. A good sample was their performance after trailing their match at round of 16 against Slovakia.
Then, at 21:00 CET, Netherlands will play against, perhaps, the weakest side of this stage, Turkey. However, I would not be too much confident as Turkey may surprise them.
Finally, I share a table after the first two matches. Four stackers remain with possibilities to earn the prize.
Good luck to everyone and I hope you enjoy the matches!
