MLB All Star Starters
MLB has announced the starters for the American and National leagues, as voted by the fans, for this year's All Star Game taking place in Arlington Texas on July 16th at 8pm.
Here are the starters:
American League: C Adley Rutschman (Orioles) 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Blue Jays) 2B Jose Altuve SS Gunnar Henderson (Orioles) 3B Jose Ramirez (Guardians) DH Yordan Alvarez (Astros) OF Aaron Judge (Yankess) OF Juan Soto (Yankees) OF Steven Kwan Guardians
National League: C William Contreras (Brewers) 1B Bryce Harper (Phillies) 2B Ketel Marte (DBacks) SS Trea Turner (Phillies) 3B Alec Bohm (Phillies) DH Shohei Ohtani (Dodgers) OF Christian Yelich (Brewers) OF Jurickson Profar (Padres) OF Fernando Tatis Jr (Padres)
Here are the jerseys for the ASG:
I really like the starters fans chose. This is very close to what my ballots looked like. My only qualm would be Turner because he has missed so much time but the only reason he is starting is because Betts is hurt. I also like the direction they have gone with the jerseys. Not great but much better than recent years.
What do stackers think of the starters and the jerseys?
Sats for all, GR
Could you please provide a link where I can learn about MLB and this all starters thing?

This is the general page for all star information from MLB. You should be able to search through there to find information about the All Star Game.

Thanks! I'll have a look at it now.

I feel that there is a great culture for sports in US and Canada. This approach is quite good.
reply
Many other nations too. Humans like competition and excellence.

Shohei Ohtani! Im glad he made the list. I was looking for ichiro, but he has retired a while now.
reply
Yes Ichiro hasn’t played for many years now but is still a legend. Shohei is incredible.
reply
Yes, they both are very good. I havent kept up with baseball since I came back from taiwan.

The truth is that it is a pride for me to see that there are several chosen players who are from my native country Venezuela... I currently reside in Peru... but for no reason do I miss the update of the Venezuelan players in the big tent... this year that all-star game is going to be very good💪💪
reply
A lot of excellent Venezuelan players. Do you have a favourite player?

José altuve💪 es uno de los mejores.. 👍

Altuve is the man! Thankfully he didn't break his hand yesterday... that would have been another huge blow for the team! The Astros as a whole not only find but develop some of if not the best Central America and Caribbean talent in my opinion!
reply
He is on quite a hot streak. Two more hits last night but he got hit by a pitch and had to come out of the game. Fortunately nothing broken. I am sure he will be back in there today or tomorrow.
reply
That is totally true altuve has always been one of the most outstanding... and he always gives everything on the field of play... he will surely be there in the next game💪
reply
@Cje95 is feeling pretty good about himself these days.

Haha yes I am! Its going to be an interesting month because we are due to get back two starting pitchers (McCullers and Garcia) from TJ surgery and Verlander should be back sometime soon as well.
Team has really played incredibly given the injuries even in the field with Tucker being out over a month now as well. Getting these guys back in my mind is really the same as making trades at the trade deadline!

I know these are all great players, and despite being a Cubs/National Leaguer, it always seems like the AL has dominant lineups and players.
Also, real interesting to see Profar have the season he is after years of being an underperforming top prospect. Nice to see.
reply
Profar is having a heck of year. Cubs are having a disappointing year. I thought they would compete with the Brewers for the NL Central this year.
reply
Dansby and Morel are batting a dismal .200, Bellinger is meh this year. Those three were/are critical for production.
I haven't had much faith since 2016 and the unceremonious dismantling of the team.
I used to love drafting Profar in fantasy baseball because he could be plugged into basically all positions, but was always disappointed in output. Now he's producing.
reply
Swanson is one of those guys that got the big contract and was never the same.
I think everyone has been waiting on Profar to break out this way. With his bat to ball skills he should have been a perennial .300ish hitter. I hope he keeps it up. The Padres are such a fascinating team. I hope they make the playoffs this year.
reply
I hope he can keep it up as well, but a 31 year old breakout, I can sadly see him getting a decent contract after this year as he's a UFA, and the doing a Dansby. It's amazing how often things like that happen.
reply
Who do you think will be the Cubs selection for the ASG? Probably Imanaga or Assad?
reply
I feel like it's gotta be Shota. Assad is on IL currently. But is anyone really deserving of it wasn't for the purpose of meeting a quota haha
reply
Imanaga has struggled a bit lately but he was incredible at the beginning of the year so I think he will be the one. I don't like this quota thing either.
Compared to the assault on our senses that pass for NBA jerseys, those are great. I especially like the American League jersey. It has a really classic look.
reply
Yes, I like that one too. The past couple years the jerseys have been really bad. Personally I would rather they go back to wearing their home team jerseys but MLB needs to jersey to try and sell so this is not a bad option.
reply
I could imagine buying one of those if I had gone to the game.
reply
I don't think I would go that far. Maybe a hat. I am so old I still have a hat from the 1991 MLB all star game in Toronto.
