Hello SN,
As some of you may already know, @OPAGO_PAY offers a quick, easy, and secure non-custodial way for merchants to accept Bitcoin via the Lightning Network. Our primary idea was to create a service that allows merchants, who might start their day at 6 AM at the wholesale market and close their shop at 10 PM, to accept Bitcoin without the need to run a node if they don't want to. However, they do have the option to run a node if they prefer and have the time. We believe the barrier for merchants to accept Bitcoin should be as low as possible! Therefore, we have a very transparent pricing model to show that traditional payment methods like credit cards often come with hidden costs and binding contracts.
In general, we have noticed that merchants naturally have concerns in their daily operations and are increasingly confronted with inflation and rising costs. Therefore, discussing the growing adoption of Bitcoin and the potential to attract new, young, and tech-savvy customers is certainly a good approach. For many merchants, implementing Bitcoin payments is still seen as a marketing gimmick. However, there are already industries that have adopted Bitcoin payment solutions due to customer demand, particularly from those who value privacy.
It's worthwhile to highlight additional benefits of Bitcoin Lightning in conversations with merchants, such as instant payments and no charge-backs. Furthermore, persistence is key; it typically takes about 3-4 discussions over a period of 1-2 months to fully convince a merchant. Generally, it might also make sense to start with the low-hanging fruits and use those references to attract new merchants. If a merchant has doubts, it makes sense to bring it up again during the next visit and have the corresponding arguments ready.
If you are considering orange-pilling merchants in your area, we recommend checking out @DarthCoin's guide on Substack. Every new merchant that accepts Bitcoin is beneficial for the Bitcoin ecosystem and helps its spread. Just as stagnant water leads to Legionella, money (Bitcoin) loses its potential if it's not circulated. If you're interested in working with us to orange-pill merchants in your area, please reach out.
Thank for this post. Any solutions for India?

Unfortunately, we don't know anything about this yet

Thanks for this post. Some questions for you.
  1. Did merchants realize that whet they charge in sats using Opago, is money that they control 100% ?
  2. Do you know if they want to convert them back for fiat or they keep it as savings? Do you try to convince them to save them or at least use them to pay employees / suppliers ?
  3. Did you tried to build some bridges between different merchants, crating a Bitcoin circular economy? I mean, to onboard a bakery and a flour / ingredients supplier for a bakery and connect them to transact each others in sats later?
I found Opago a very interesting and good way to onboard new small merchants. These small merchants are the important engine of a circular economy, not the big chains.

Thanks for your questions @DarthCoin!
  1. Of course, onboarding a merchant also involves a fundamental discussion about Bitcoin and its nature. If there are significant knowledge gaps or understanding issues, we recommend a self-learning app based on the Learn and Earn principle. This way, the merchant can start collecting their first sats. In general, merchants or business owners are very interested in the additional benefits Bitcoin can offer them, especially since they might have heard certain things or are currently facing issues with high costs or payout problems with payment service providers.
  2. Since we will only be offering our off-ramp function in euros with our partner Bringin in the next few weeks, to our knowledge, all merchants are currently holding the revenue they have received in Bitcoin. After the implementation, merchants will have the option to choose what percentage of incoming transactions should be off-ramped to euros, with the remainder going directly to their linked Lightning Wallet in Bitcoin. This allows the merchant to decide freely. For example, some merchants, like gas stations, are interested in accepting Bitcoin but prefer to receive euros directly due to the high fuel taxes. We aimed to provide a solution for this. In the future, our goal is to orange-pill larger merchants to create more opportunities for them to spend their sats for business purposes. We have already discussed with various restaurant owners, for example, about setting up a tip pool for their employees, as we can ensure a fair split here as well. There was indeed interest from the merchants in this initiative. I believe these would be additional steps that could be taken after the initial positive experiences with Bitcoin in business.
  3. To be honest, not yet. Currently, our sales efforts are focused on ensuring that @OPAGO_PAY is not just seen as a solution for hospitality, for example. Bitcoin payments are possible everywhere, so we have merchants from various industries currently using our services. We will now leverage this customer reference to conduct targeted industry marketing and address specific sectors accordingly (The bridges you mentioned).

I recently signed up with opago-pay. I do notice that there is no USA option AFTER I signed up. I have emailed the support in regards to providing my FEIN as we do not use "VAT" in the USA, Have not yet heard back as there was a typo in the number.
I was previously using ibexpay, however they no longer are doing any business in the USA, sad, it worked well.
opago-pay probablt will catch on in the USA if there is some attention to adding USA in the various drop down issues.
I still am optimistic, that they want to do business in the USA.

Hello @globalmerchantio, apologies for the inconvenience. I will check in with my colleagues again directly; your request has indeed been discussed and I thought we had already responded. Currently, we are still looking for an importer or partner for the USA. Additionally, there are regulatory matters we need to address before we can serve this market, which we are eager to do. Therefore, not all features are currently enabled or usable for all countries.

Thank you for the reply. So If I order the orange hand held POS terminal, It can work in USA ? It seems like it woul be great for the market here.
If we don't need converted fiat funds, but just receive SATS into a designated wallet, then we can proceed and buy your unit ?
We are actually based in Waikiki Beach, (Hawaii) many, tourists and visiting business people here from Asia some B2B want to use Bitcoin for payments, much importing and exporting here. Even Amazon is opening a mega warehouse complex here.
B2C using in coffee shops is ok, but no is addressing the B2B wholesale markets.
Can we use your system in the USA ?
Thank you, Richard
