Happy Canada Day! Love the video! The most interesting part was Ice Skating one!
Canada is such a great country for sports! Being a lover of sports, I don't view any other nation that has been so good for sports as a whole. No surprises when they say that the fastest growing sports in Canada is Cricket!

Yes, cricket is becoming very popular in Canada. I wonder how Canada will fare at the World Cup a decade or two from now. Maybe they will become one of the top teams
reply
They will surely be the top teams. They gave all the potential. In a decade or two, I have no doubt that either of US or Canada will lift some prominent cup.

USA cricket 🏏???
reply
They played very well in the first round. of the T20 world cup. Not so much afterwards. I was reading up on the history of cricket in the US and how around the time of the Civil War baseball started taking off and cricket declined in interest.

We need to recruit more players of Indian descent lol
Tim Lockley, an American history expert at Warwick University, says on the USA Cricket website that by 1860, it had become the most popular sport in the country. The Civil War era saw baseball become the dominant pastime thanks mostly to baseball games lasting hours versus cricket matches that could take days.

Hopefully this is the case. As more kids watch Canada perform in events like the T20 they become interested in the game and hopefully pursue it.
Canada saw huge growth in basketball interest after Toronto got an NBA team in the 90s. Now there are many nba players from Canada. I think something similar will happen with cricket.

But hockey will always remain the most popular sport?
reply
I am not sure. Definitely for the foreseeable future but Canada’s demographics are changing drastically and not many kids play hockey anymore due to how expensive it is. A lot more kids playing soccer now than when I grew up. When I was a kid everyone played hockey in the winter (if not in a league, at least on the outdoor rink for fun) and baseball in the summer.
I think hockey will still be the most popular sport in suburban and rural Canada but in the cities who knows.
