Phased ASG Fan Voting
Starting in 2019 the MLB made a change to the fan voting process for selecting starters to the league's annual All Star Game. Instead of making it just one round of voting amongst all the available players at each position. They added a second phase of voting where they narrowed it down to only the top two vote getters at each position in each league.
Starting in 2022 they made a small tweak to the voting process where the two top vote getters (one in each league) in phase one of voting automatically bypass phase two of voting and are selected as starters for the all star game.
I have always enjoyed the MLB all star game and used to love going to games as a kid and punching out player's names on paper ballots. It was one of the highlights of going to a late spring/early summer game. I do miss paper ballots, even though they are messy and wasteful but at least you didn't have to give MLB any of your personal details to partake.
I think MLB has done a really good job with the fan voting process for the all star game. I like the phased voting. The second phase really eliminates throw away votes for guys that are injured or from people that vote for players on their team no matter how bad they are. I do wish they let fans vote for pitchers though. That is my one critique of the way MLB does it.
What do you guys think? Do you like having two phases of all star voting or keep it just as one, it's an all star game after all.
Sats for all,
