It has survived major earthquakes. The other one The SF-Oakland Bay Bridge took major damage in 1989, was strengthened, and then had the largest part of the span replaced a little more than ten years ago.

It is under constant maintenance and repair. The painting operation alone is a year round project. You can probably Google up a documentary. I lived in the Bay Area two decades and the local shows frequently highlighted maintenance crews and their danger, etc.
