SN design idea:
Destroy the notifications bell, or at least hide it from “Home Screen view” - or, give users the option whether it is there.
I think a lot about MySpace and the customized personal-public network of webpages a lot. While the theme of user customization is relevant, an underlying theme is only tangential:
There seems to be a chorus trying to encourage young people to learn how to code. I remember learning a modest amount of HTML/CSS to customize my MySpace page and the pride and excitement it gave me. Where do young people have that power - like a sandboxed, scalable power - to customize their online experience? No wonder too few people feel especially inspired to study programming and everyone is instead interested in becoming an influencer…our desires are heavily mediated by our options to express ourselves.
My own lament is I feel increasingly interested in making my own personal-public website but feel overwhelmed, frustrated and dissatisfied with the website builders available.
I support having the option, but I do not want to lose the bell.

Is this true? I feel like lots of people want to study programming.

Do you want to learn to program or learn to use website builders? While related, they’re very different. There are tons of no-code and low-code builders out there
