It's Saturday, thus it is poll day!
The MLB all star game takes place on July 16. The ASG is commonly viewed as the midpoint of the season, even though it takes place closer to the 100 game mark. (162 games in an MLB season).
It is looking like our MLB survivor pool might be ending prior to the short break for the ASG. A couple stackers have expressed interest in a second half MLB Survivor Pool. I like the idea as it will give some stackers who didn't get a chance to participate in the first one an opportunity to join in.
With only around 40% of the season remaining post ASG, if we were to run it back with the same style pool we might not have enough weeks left in the season and we would be running into the start of the NFL Survivor Pool.
So, I was hoping to get feedback from stackers on a few potential options: a) no second half pool b) run the same pool second half right to end of season and let tiebreakers determine the winner c) run a similar pool but with modified rules so it is more likely to end prior to end of season d) run a similar pool but for only a maximum of 6 weeks until NFL Survivor begins.
Please vote on these options below.
No pool11.1%
Same pool until end of season22.2%
Similar pool until end of season33.3%
Short pool until end of August33.3%

Are you thinking of letting it go into the post season? Because that makes the pool a lot more interesting.

No, I would rather it ends with the regular season so we can do something different for the post season like we did last year with the Bracket Challenge.
My personal preference is short pool until NFL pool begins but I will abide by the wishes of the masses.
Though we could kind of force a short pool if we made it only 1 strike.

I vote similar pool. Here are some ideas, that maybe can be used, probably not all at once as that would be ridiculous.
  1. If we reach end of season still with multiple participants still alive, then split pot. Perhaps pro-rated payouts based on strikes remaining at end of season.
  2. Alternate weeks, where participants can only pick from NL or AL teams, but still not reuse teams. Small pool each weeks theoretically can make it tougher to pick great lineups based on schedule. Haven't fully thought out if this would have a material difference just throwing it out. A variant of this could be users can only pick from certain divisions. Like this week is "Central" teams, so you can pick from either NL or AL Central teams.
  3. Consider a .500 week a strike. I'd be curious if the data, but this could actually make the survivor pool go super quickly.
I may keep thinking. Either way I think we should continue to do something.

I like these. I was thinking something along the lines of if you use a team in 1st place this week, you have to use a last place team the following week or something like that. Of course this would only be in play if we kept 3 strikes.
That's pretty drastic so maybe it should be if you use a team currently seeded in the playoffs, you have to use one seeded out of the playoffs the following week.

May be tough to follow for users. Like standings and seeding, especially as races wind down will change or can change mid week. I'll give it more thought though.

Good point. Something to consider.
