Curiosity: 263 years ago, in 1761, Portugal made history by becoming the first nation to abolish the slave trade within its borders (although the trade continued in its colonies). This landmark decision granted freedom to any enslaved individuals who entered Portuguese territory. It marked a significant step towards the eventual abolition of slavery.

The photo shows the original document that outlawed slavery. As for the handwriting, we still learn to write in this style in school, but then everyone develops their own unique handwriting. :)

I didn't know Portugal was first, but that was the norm for European colonial powers. Out of sight, out of mind.
