Isn't Boston sick of winning?
It has not been a good millennia thus for far Boston sports haters. With the Celtics victory last night, teams based in and around the city of Boston have now won 13 championships since the year 2000.
6 for the Patriots. 4 for the Red Sox. 2 for the Celtics. 1 for the Bruins. Boston based teams have won 13.68% of the major North American sports championships so far this millenia (I included this year's stanley cup in the calculation since we know the Bruins aren't winning it).
Enough already.
Shout out to @Bell_curve for winning 5k sats in the NBA Finals pick 'em. Being a contrarian proves useful again as he was the only one to pick the Celtics. Also a begrudging congrats to @Undisciplined for winning our leaders vs the field bet. As they say, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once and awhile.
Sats for all, GR

Congrats to the Celtics on getting it done. They proved haters like me wrong.
I still dislike the Bruins for 2011...
reply
Yes, as much as I don't like them, the Celtics were the best team all year.

Hate Pats with a passion, but fear not, they wont win another championship for next decade... Cheaters town is empty now... NFL can rest easy, no more need to burn the tapes or anything like that...
reply
Let's hope all the Boston teams take a break from winning. Celtics will likely be contenders next year too though.

Eastern Conference needs to get better

And beyond the big four, there's the two for the Boston Cannons in Major League Lacrosse.
At least the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer have been shut out.

Lacrosse is a fun sport. I went to a couple Toronto Rock games years ago. It's a good sport to watch live.

News outlets in Portugal have been buzzing about the Boston Celtics' recent success, and much of the credit is being given to their young Portuguese center, Neemias Queta. As a non-basketball fan, I'm curious to know if he's as good as the hype suggests.
reply
He is a role player on the Celtics. He did not play in last night's game. I don't know much about him to be honest. @Undisciplined might have more insight into whether he has a lot of potential or is likely to be a 12th man type of guy.
reply
I've never heard of him. Congratulations, though.

I can see that the media is hyping this up :)
reply
I think this is common. We hype up all our pro athletes that play sports other than hockey here in Canada too.
reply
Leaders were different, but in general they played good as a Team whole season, that was big part of why they won the tournament. Queta has two-way contract, also played in G League for Maine Celtics. In NBA had 28 games in regular season and only 3 games in playoffs.

What's this "once and awhile" phrase? Is that more fancy Canadian spelling?
reply
No, that's just my bad grammar.

Here's my fun wager for next year's title:
There hasn't been a repeat champion since the Warriors. The past 6 titles have all gone to unique franchises. Will that streak continue next season?
  • No: one of Raptors, Lakers, Bucks, Warriors, Nuggets, or Celtics will win.
  • Yes: any other team wins
Are you interested in putting one kilosat on either of those?
reply
This is a fun one.
I am fairly certain the Raptors, Lakers, Warriors will not win but the Bucks, Nuggets and Celtics are intriguing. I think it I would lean towards that group at this point.
reply
For maximum fun, I think we need to lock it in before the offseason really starts.
As I see it, it's essentially
  • Nuggets, Celtics, Bucks
vs
  • Mavs, TWolves, Thunder, Knicks, Heat, Cavs, Clippers, Suns
It does feel pretty close.
reply
Sure I am in. I will take the champs this time since the field did me wrong last time.
reply
Awesome!
Now I have a rooting interest in all the offseason activity.

That face sums it up nicely.

Boston is not sick of winning. Their sports fans are obnoxious and insufferable and knowledgeable.
What is worse than Boston sports? Boston politicians
reply
Yeah, I will take Boston sports fans over Boston politicians any day.

No they aren't. Anyways, I only watched them couple of times, does that make me a Celtics fan as well? :P
