Tensions seem to be flaring everywhere. I can't help thinking this has something to do with the leadership vacuum in the US, though maybe I have a US-centric view of the world.

Nothing burger. Foreign media are the worst when reporting on North Korea. At least, they're playing their role, giving Uncle Kim his much needed attention, thus pushing him to maintain the effective peace between the North and the South.

Overall I doubt North Korea would do anything strictly because China would not want to deal with the collapse of another government next to them. Not only has Myanmar fallen into a pretty significant yet not discussed civil war but China wants Taiwan and if the US and others are over there dealing with North Korea China won't be able to make a move to invade Taiwan without significant and immediate issues.

I'm still waiting for a mega escalation of the Kashmir conflict, more Taiwan stuff and let's see what happens with Cuba, where politics has been getting around as well as it can so far.

The details are fuzzy. Also, I didn't know NK troops crossed the border last week "accidentally" and SK troops fired warning shots?

Yeah I remember getting the notification of that happening... I thought at first it was people trying to escape but that was not the case.
