I think Linux is nearly there. We mostly need more manufacturers to embrace Linux to make it more turnkey. There are already a few like Purism doing this.
And system76! Pop_os is really good for beginners. I made the switch to Linux using system 76. It hasn’t been 100% easy but it got me off the windows OS

I think the biggest problem that Linux has is that people are used to Windows.
If people would grow up with Linux they would find Windows hard to use (like I do now).

i agree. it has come a long way. i can see it stepping into the spotlight within the next decade. factors are brewing for it:
  • privacy minded people looking for alternatives
  • open source projects becoming more popular, and easier to setup
  • distributed operating systems, apps, .. i don't know everything? nostrweb? [this one is really interesting to watch]
  • decentralization of everything
i think it just takes a curious mind. ai might be the deciding factor in a few years (or now if you're already there lol).
