Bitcoin will do its thing in time. Just keep exchanging melting ice cube fiat for sound money and you will do just fine in the long run.

Yes it can suppress the price because shorting is selling Bitcoin you have borrowed.
But shorts can also get squeezed out too and have to buy back higher causing the price to run up quickly.
