Different subreddits can offer their own type of token. r/Cryptocurrency was the first to do this about a year ago with “Moons” (as I remember) and I think some other communities have followed.
It’s an evolution of karma but also getting into the monetization Reddit is trying to do with all the avatars (NFTs), paid features/plans and overall evolution of Reddit into odd directions.

Currently Reddit's community points are held on Ethereum's Rinkeby testnet. While they are on testnet and theoretically shouldn't have any real value, there is a market for these testnet tokens. For instance, Moons from the r/cryptocurrency subreddit are currently going for $0.08. Yet it is relatively hard to sell the tokens at present since they have to be transferred across blockchains.
