To overtime or not to overtime... What are your thoughts? Is it worth it to work overtime and lose time away from family? Even if you have a goal in mind?

I work almost min wage in the UK,
The overtime rate is significantly higher, and I know it won’t be available in the quantity it is now. So right now I’m earning at extra £30 a day for 1.5 hours work. Whilst it’s here I’m doing as much as a I can. Once I’ve cleared my last bit of debt, I’ll take my foot of the gas and focus on other stuff. But for now 8am - 6pm days.

Its never a bad idea to get ahead while you can! Especially when you have the drive and time!

when i do not work, i study hard, and spend time developing the vital skills necessary for the transition.
i decided to work extra hard in the past couple months in order to buy myself some time for learning. i also downsized, significantly. the knowledge will set us free, and it comes thru buying some time to learn. studying is required.
that would be my advice: assemble a curriculum, then work hard to buy urself some time, and follow the curriculum.

My work has downtime. Its not bad if I want to get things done.

Wow, a very controversial topic and it will depend on your needs and also where you live, since you do not spend money for living the same in all parts of the world, and you do not earn papers for working in the same way in all countries. It's been several years since I had my last job and I don't mean that I don't have a job. I mean many years ago I was someone else's employee. and one of the things that led me to wake up regarding work. It was the overtime and realizing how many hours I worked and that I was not paid correctly, and when I asked for an explanation or compensation for what was missing for the months I worked overtime, they told me that I could continue working quietly or I could leave alone. door. Obviously I left.
Now since I work for myself I understood something, when you are an employee you are clearly influenced by how much you are going to earn. and on the days you work a lot or a little you will always earn the same.
On the contrary, when you are the captain of the ship, the harder you work and the more effort you put in, the better the pay and profits can be.
so my thought would be the only worthwhile overtime is the one you put into your own business, the rest is just noise. I hope my opinion helps you

Very controversial. But I believe important. In this day and age, for the younger generation, working overtime can be a blessing.

No overtime at all in the same organisation. If you need, you should take on a second job somewhere else.
However it's highly not worth it. ...
Instead of it try to multiply the value of your time. Some people work for less time but get paid more and that should be the mindset instead of working more hours.

Why work somewhere else? Some places offer 1.5x to 2x for overtime...
reply
Oh my bad! I sometimes relate it only to my country. Here they don't pay for overtime!
If they are paying more, it's good .
reply
It depends on the workplace. Some pay 1.5 after 40 hours, and 2x after 48 or 60.
reply
Okay. So it's weekly payout there?
May I know which country you are from?
reply
It depends on the job... some positions are salary, and they can make you work more than 40 hours.
reply
Ahh!! Okay... It's good here in India a normal work shedule weekly requires at least 48 hours... 8*6 days a week

In my opinion, we should do something by creating a balance between our private and professional lives. Because we work overtime for the our family, but if the family does not want it, then we should not do it at all. Because happiness is important in life, not some other materialistic things.

This is true. It depends on the families needs. What if it is a growing family that needs more cash flow?
