pull down to refresh

A fawn has been hiding and sleeping under our porch all day.

That is so cool!
Have you seen the mother at all?

reply

Not yet. Apparently, our yard is in a convenient spot for dropping off the babies for the day, because something like this happened last year, too.

reply

Safe is very important for young ones.
How long do they usually stay?

reply

Usually, just during the day. The mom's go out and graze during the day and then come back for their babies.

reply

Do the babies cry at all?

reply

This one's been really quiet.

Last year, the fawn freaked out after it saw us and couldn't figure out how to get of our yard. It was sprinting back and forth along the back fence. I don't think it helped that this happened during a thunderstorm.

I had to go out and open the side gate and then try to herd the fawn in that direction.

reply

they get injured when they freak out.
Good on you to do that.
I heard cats and deer get along pretty well.

reply

We still had a dog last year, which probably added to the freak out.

Holy! That’s extremely cool. Is it common to see deer on your property.

reply

More often in the front yard, but there are lots of deer in our area.

We also had a whole flock of turkeys back there last summer.

We also had a whole flock of turkeys back there last summer.

I see this everytime I get on the subway.

reply

Nice.

They aren't jive turkeys, by any chance?

reply

Oh. Let's see. The flock is composed of wild turkey, definitely some jive turkeys and a decent smattering of turkey vultures. When the subway car is full, they really have to squeeze in...we call that turkey stuffing.

reply

Wow.. Keep them :)

Too late
