The essay is poorly written.
He starts by saying that you must provide value instead of getting lucky, then jumps to HODLing and how it requires conviction. How does HODLing provide value? Would there be a pizza day if everyone kept HODling?

Disclaimer, I haven't read the essay. It wouldn't surprise me to notice it's poorly written.
I think this is an example of reductio ad absurdum
I believe it was Bitstein who put up some thoughts on the value of HODLing.. it's been a while
