We are all Cricketers now
Huge shout out to @Coinsreporter for the comprehensive Cricket Pool/Bounties he is putting together surrounding the T20 World Cup. If you are interesting in joining and haven't done so already details can be found here #542798.
He posted a number of bounties yesterday. You can find them here: #553356 #553371 #553384 #553397 #553409 #553573
He has put a lot of effort and committed a lot of sats to making this a great event for both cricket and non cricket fans so let's give him some zaps and enter the contest.
Also a quick note on the Celtics moving on to the NBA finals. I read an interesting stat this morning. The Pacers had at least a 90% win probability in the 4th quarter of games 1, 3, and 4 and two times that came with less than 3 minutes less. What are the odds a team would lose all 3 games they had a 90% probability of winning? Win probability is a sketchy metric because it can shift drastically. A couple rebounds and a couple 3s in what was a 7 point game can shift from 90% to 55% real quick, but it is still pretty astounding the Pacers didn't win any of these games. Lack of experience, poor decision making, choking or maybe it's just the Celtics year after years of playoff failure. We will see what Luka and Kyrie have to say about that.
Sats for all, GR
I'm looking forward to this world cup, it's the first one since I started following cricket. The highlights from previous years definitely look good.
Bit of a question if anyone knows, is Willow or Sling the better option for a subscription over that time? I'm in the US. I know they're using the same coverage, but I've heard people mention they prefer one over the other. I'll most likely not be able to watch live, so I'm hoping the replay experience is decent.

Great, thank you for the information! I don't normally have any subscriptions except for the WRC, so some of the information about this event is a bit confusing!
reply
I have Willow in Canada. Very good channel that shows many games. I don't watch much cricket but Willow does seems good.
reply
Thanks for the information! Can you get it as a standalone option directly from them, or do you need to add it to an existing subscription? I've seen several places that say you need to have another subscription, and some that say you pay the $10 and can watch direct from their website.
reply
It is part of my cable tv sports package but if it wasn't I could either remove a different specialty channel and add it or add it for $5 a month.
You might have something similar with your cable provider but if you don't have cable I suppose you will need to pay to stream it.
reply
Yeah I don't have TV, cable, or any streaming services other than the WRC. So I guess I'll try the direct subscription and see how that works. Some of the wording was confusing and made it sound as if adding it to your cable or streaming package was the only option.

I thought I would be replaced by AI but it turns out I just got outsourced to India. Haha
reply
Haahha! Who said that you would be replaced by AI?
You can well be the commentator of live cricketing action starting from June 1. IMO, there's 0% chance of Commentary being replaced by AI.
reply
Thanks for doing this. You have given me a reason to learn and obsess over a new sport.
reply
Should we be worried lol
Spaghetti westerns and now cricket 🏏
reply
Yeah. Probably

I’m obviously 80 percent joking πŸ™ƒ

Who knew an April Fools joke would become reality?
It's pools all the way down.
reply
I don't remember that there was some April Fool's Joke. Will you please remind me on that?
reply
I just made a joke post on April Fool's Day. Since we were launching a lot of sports pools that I would just create a sports pool that never ended.
reply
Ahhh! Now I remember it. After reading it once again today and straight away got a thought of creating an infinity pool for cricket where Stackers can re-enter the pool infinite times with a few tweaks.
Thank you so much! You're a great source of inspiration!
reply
I really appreciate what you are contributing to the territory and SN more broadly. I hope the pool goes well and some of us (like me) learn a bit more about the sport.
@Public_N_M_E are you joining the cricket pool?
reply
I know as much about cricket as I do baseball πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I'll take a pass on this one. Thanks for the invite though.

A huge THANKS for the shout out! You're marvellous, man! I have to admit I'm highly grateful to you for providing sports lover such a great territory. These bounties wouldn't have been possible without ~Stacker_Sports and you.

P(losing all 3) = [1 - P(winning)]^3 = (1 - 0.9)^3 = 0.001 = 0.1%
Are these Celtics a team of destiny?
The Wolves have also had a lead in the final minutes of their three losses.
reply
I don't know if this formula works though because one game was with 8 minutes left. I could see if they were all in the last minute this would be a good representation of the odds.
Anyways, either way you slice it, highly unlikely.
Did you enter the cricket pool?
reply
It's a conditional probability, so it's all about specifying the conditions, but you're right that it's not right. These games aren't independent of each other, the way coin flips are and you could pick any of the other win probabilities from the three games to get totally different answers.
I haven't joined the cricket pool yet, but I will.

You are gonna love Duckworth-Lewis… :)

Hey @Coinsreporter, the local news is giving the T-20 lots of publicity. Unfortunately it is because of terrorism threats to the stadium.
reply
Yes, I've come to know about all of this very recently. Actually a threat has been identified for the Trinidad and Tobago leg of tournament and International Cricket Council has taken serious measures for it. There will be some extra layers of security and I believe that ICC, being a very rich sports bost, won't let any stone unturned for safety of players and people. No worries.
Also, ICC alongwith Board of Cricket Control in India have safety protocols much similar to that of VVIPs or Highest ranked politicians. A stadium and the city hosting a match undergoes so many security checks before organising a match that there is little to no chance of any terrorist activity.
These kind of threat posting by militant organisations is normal because of India's involvement in the tournament. The threats always come prior to big events of Cricket and all of them arise from Pakistan. Also this time it's Islamic State (IS) sitting in Pakistan has been threatening for almost 2 months now. But, TBH, it's just putting on airs. India is such a strong country now that all these Militant organisations know the consequences well enough even for firing a small amout of crackers!
For US leg no terrorist threats have been identified so far. So enjoy the tournament. Media these days only serve consumables with more spices.
reply
Nothing will happen in the stadium. The police are very powerful in India these days.
reply
Yes, but they are playing on Long Island, in New York!
reply
ICC T20 World Cup begins on June 2 under the joint auspices of the West Indies and the USA, with almost all the teams having travelled to take part.
Which match are you talking about in New York?
reply
reply
Will NYPD, FBI, CSI, US Army all of them let a terrorist enter US?
As I said media is only exaggerating nothing else.
Also, they are now posting threats for NY Ind-Pak match because that's even a bigger match than the final itself. They want attention. When they didn't get much attention by sharing threat for Trinidad and Tobago matches, they have started rounds of threat posting for this marquee match. This has forever been the same. Before any India Pakistan match terrorist organisations just rise out of their lowly beds only for posting up shitloads of threats.
reply
Terrorists are free to enter the US without any border checks. If they come to NYC, the city will also put them up in nice hotels for free.
reply
I don't believe this and I'm sorry I can't be on the same page with you on this.
The US boasts the highest level of security checking on arrival and before giving visas to people from all countries which are suspect of flourishing terrorist activities on their land.
Ok. Now I get it I haven't seen the schedule of all the matches yet.
