Why would they even bother to attack something like this? Just for fun?

A strange target to DDOS. Sorta like DDOS the homeless or something.

Why is it strange? Internet archive is a way to view stuff that’s no longer live where it was when originally indexed. Seems like important stuff, no?
reply
The point is, the stuff is no longer there which means someone would have to look for it to matter. To direct an attack is odd since you'd probably be only stopping a handful of people?

I've heard the theory is: Agents who sell DDOS services will pick large well-known sites as a demonstration of prowess to vouch for their ability.

I guess that's something, but the archive is not my first thought for "boy, look how tough my skills are!" It's like beating up grandma and bragging about it. Now, Cloudflare on the other hand...
reply
I see your point. I honestly have no idea how many people use the archive.
reply
However many people it is, even fewer are using it for any given disappeared topic...
