No it is an action drama. Gangster show but featuring famous Black gangster Bumpy Johnson who was the head of a major heroin operation in Harlem during the 1960s. The civil rights movement was also going on during this time so the show also prominently features Malcom X who is a friend of Johnsons.

It takes place during the civil rights movement so it does cover a lot of that but I think it is historically accurate so I wouldn’t describe it as woke or preachy.
