One day Socrates was busy in philosophical conversation with his disciples. The students were deeply absorbed in philosophical discussions.
After sometime,to his sheer surprise, Socrates noticed that his disciples became restless and were not paying attention to what he was saying. Socrates noticed that a beautiful woman was passing then and the beauty of that woman was the reason why all his students became restless and inattentive to their studies.
IN THOSE DAYS THERE WAS RESTRICTION ON WOMEN IN ATHENS TO COME OUT ON THE WAY AND A SUDDEN APPEARANCE OF THE BEAUTIFUL WOMAN MADE SUCH DISTRACTIONS.
Socrates realised that the woman was from any forbidden area as otherwise no one else would dare break the social restrictions.
The woman knew Socrates. She came near Socrates and told him :-
Look Socrates you are so very wise but still I can divert attention of your students towards me. I challenge, you cannot divert my followers towards your activities of learning.
Socrates told that woman very quietly---- 'Do you know the reason why you can easily do what I cannot do? '
Because You guide men downwards and I lift them up. It is always easier to go downward than going upwards.
This little story makes me think about the current world with so much frustration that there are so many things that are readymade to take you downward. And, unsurprisingly, you readily bow down to them and lose your integrity and character.
Yes, there were and there are still things like Bitcoin that can take you upwards but it's as difficult a task as it was in Socrates' times.
Bitcoin is an attempt to create an utopia but the distraction are so abundant that you can't avoid them.
I want thoughts from all of you -
How can we avoid these distraction and move upwards towards an utopian financial world?
How is Bitcoin a modern day Socrates?
Amazing Story!
@Athena is writing about Athens.
Yes, I also believe that Bitcoin is really doing a great job towards creating a utopian world. The inbuilt ethics of Bitcoin do suggest a Utopia.
If you want to avoid distractions, just stop reading centralized media.

Thank you so much for your suggestion!

Good story, and so true, many things seek to misinform you, trap you, make you live an empty life or not prosper, Bitcoin, as you say, is a revolutionary and liberating invention, but there are still many people who prefer to "look at the woman with a good body" than seek the truth and do the dirty work.

Very true!

Great story. I like to think in this story fiat (and even other cryptos) are the distraction pulling the students away from studying bitcoin.
As bitcoiners we avoid the distraction by focusing on the great things Bitcoin can offer humanity but how we get the students, those who have not crossed the chasm to become bitcoiners, to avoid the distraction and stay focused on bitcoin is a difficult question.
reply
One should have many goals to achieve but has one focus.

I think this doesn't answer @grayruby. Yes, it's a difficult question for sure but we need to find a way out. To avoid distractions and to attract Bitcoin students, I believe SN is the best platform (not calling it a Bitcoin University) because learning here is fun and distraction less.
What do you say?
reply
SN is great. How can we encourage more people new to bitcoin to join and learn with us?
reply
I think we should talk to more and more people in person to onboard SN. If they even stay 1 or two days on SN, I'm sure they can't avoid the learning that SN imparts. So far I've referred 22 people but active people are only those who remained active at least for two or three days. Those who just signed up but didn't bother to read, I didn't ask them to do because they aren't readers.
reply
Thatโ€™s an impressive number of referrals.
reply
Thanks but those who are playing it for are are hardly 10.

You all can encourage beginners like me by zapping good amount of sats๐Ÿ˜€

This seems one solution. ๐Ÿ˜œ

Great scholar! I admire Socrates for his great commitment to create a word with real freedom, a true utopian society.
Currently, Bitcoin is obviously best suited teacher to teach about utopia.
reply
Would be a much better story if Socrates got the woman while spreading philosophy around.
reply
In case you don't know Socrates had a rude wife.
reply
That's why I left philosophy!
