It's Saturday. Thus it is poll day!
Which type of Stacker Sports contest do you prefer?
Pick 'em- more frequent, free to join, low prize payout. Bracket Challenge- similar to pick 'em but based on points accumulated over a series of rounds. free to join, low to medium prize payout. Predict an event- less frequent, free to join, participants zapped based on predicting specific events like trades or games teams are eliminated, low prize payout. Survivor Pool (zap pot)- less frequent, takes place over many weeks of a season, no set buy in but the more you zap the pot the larger the prize pool, medium to large prize payout. Survivor Pool (buy in)- same features as the other survivor pool but has a set buy in to participate and the largest payout of any contest.

Despite losing every single time, I love the survivor pools (slight preference for zap pot).

I also like the zap pot because you see it climbing but I know in those pools only a few of us are really zapping large amounts to the pot. I want the NFL survivor pool to be bigger this year so I think I will do buy in for that but zap pot for everything else. I would really like to get to a pot over 500k sats for NFL survivor pool this year. Who knows, if we do a rebuy option again, maybe we can hit 1M?
reply
I wonder if a zap pot with a rebuy option could work.
reply
How could we manage that without knowing who is zapping?
reply
When someone gets eliminated, tag them in a comment and say "zap 1k (or whatever) to reenter the contest".
reply
Could work. Should I change the buy in structure this year for survivor pool and just have people deposit sats into survivor pool account with comment or keep buy in by zap? Buy in by zap is cool because you see the pot climbing on the post but then 10% goes to fees. Last year I covered the fees with rewards the Survivor Pool got but I don't think it will get enough rewards to cover 50k in fees if we have a 500k pot.
reply
Yeah, it would probably be better to have people deposit the funds.
reply
Yes unless everyone agrees they don't mind contributing 10% of their buy in and rebuy to fees for the betterment of the broader community. I will do a poll of participants prior to updating the rules for 2024.
I don't care which route we take. I just don't want to cover 50k sats gap due to fees.
Interesting. I live the survivor pool also, but I like the idea of a buy in. Second choice is survivor without buy in.
reply
I want to do buy in again for NFL Survivor 2024. Should I do buy in by zap and just deduct what goes to fees the pot or should I do buy in by deposit?
reply
Zaps seems simpler to me, assuming zapping hasn't changed substantially by then.
reply
It's definitely simpler. I just don't know how participants will feel about 10% of their buy in going to fees. I don't mind it. It's good for SN but if buy in is 20k and rebuy is 20k not sure if people will like 4k going to fees.
I will probably poll participants and see what the majority wants once we get closer to setting the rules for this year.
reply
Good point. I hadn't considered that.
