I have had a very bad experience recently and I just want to share this with SN community as a priority. So, please bear with me for the story part.
One of my acquaintance had a minor fight with a person two weeks ago. Before two days, he went to watch a movie with his girlfriend. He posted a selfie with the name of the theatre in the background on a social media platform.
The person who fought with my aquinatance somehow came to know about his location. That person reached the theatre and waited till the movie was over. When my acquaintance came out of the theatre, he was beaten severely by the group of hooligans because of that his one hand got fractured and was hospitalized for 3 days.
However my aquinatance filed a case against the bully but this incidence left me thinking if this mishappening can easily be avoided. Here's when—
  • Only if my acquaintance did not post the selfie.
  • Only if those hooligans didn't know the location and timing of my acquaintance.
So, I want to know if ever you had such an experience or accident after you/someone you know shared some personal details via centralised media platforms?
Do you post selfies publicly?
Do you dare to share your current location with everyone?
Note: I should be grateful if you can suggest me to which territory I should have posted it. For now, I'm posting this in ~security.
Also tell me if I should share such experiences on SN or not?

This is the root cause. He needs to stop being in fights.
