The Name Game- Dynamic Duos
Another fun one today.
Last week we played the name game and discussed some of the best nicknames across sports history. That post prompted a discussion on nicknames for groups of players. I am going to suggest we limit today's discussion to duos or maybe trios of players if you would like and not entire team units as I would like to do another post next week for nicknames of team units (ex. seattle's legion of boom)
So today let's try to stick to duos and maybe trios if you have a few good ones. Shill me your favourite nicknames for sports duos.
I will start. The Bash Brothers- Mark McGuire and Jose Canseco when they both were prolific homerun hitters in the Oakland A's lineup.
Zaps for all but extra zaps for the ones that make me go "oh yeah that was awesome".
Sats for all, GR
Thunder and lightning
Which I think was Chris Johnson and LenDale White for the Tennessee Titians
The French Connection
A Buffalo Sabres hockey line that included Gilbert Perreault Rick Martin and Rene Robert
I remember hearing a lot about them growing up.
The Triplets
Marvin Harrison, Peyton Manning, Edgerrin James
reply
Had never heard the Thunder and Lightning one.
Good stuff. The French Connection is an awesome one.
reply
Thunder and Lightning was a late 90's early 00's thing.
The Raiders had it with Napoleon Kaufman and Tyrone Wheatley. I also remember the Giants having one with Ron Dayne and Tiki Barber.

Since I'm getting in early, I'll take "The Splash Brothers" Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
"The Twin Towers" has been used several times in NBA history, but for me it will always mean David Robinson and Tim Duncan.
Here's a good one that I don't think anyone else is going to take: "The Davis Brothers" I know that may seem like a really boring nickname, but the fun part is that Dale and Antonio Davis are not brothers. They are exactly the same size, though.

I am usually a fan of Doris but I can’t stand her fawning over the Celtics. She is going on about Brown defending Siakam and the replay shows Brown blatantly push Siakam out of bounds and she responds “a bit of physicality” rather than just admitting “he got away with one there”.
reply
She and JJ are fine, but Jeff van Gundy and Mark Jackson were legitimately entertaining.
reply
Overall the announcing has been pretty good this playoffs.
reply
All good ones. I think there should be something for Jalen and Jaylin Williams for OKC. I am sure it has happened before but has to be pretty rare two guys with the same name are on the same team.
reply
Does Lob City count? I think it refers to Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, and DeAndre Jordan.
Also, do you think Ant poked the bear by saying he got Kyrie in the game 7 post game interview, which led to Kyrie being extra aggressive in the first half of yesterday's game? Would Kyrie have kept his foot off the gas a bit if Ant did not make those comments? Or was Kyrie going to turn it up regardless of what was said, because it was the first game of the conference finals?
reply
Of course it counts and maybe because Kyrie was certainly dominant in the first half. Let’s see how the rest of the series plays out.

As nicknames go, the "M&M Boys" wasn't the best, but Maris and Mantle were pretty fantastic, and I recall folks trying to revive it for Mauer and Morneau.
reply
Good one. I didn't know that they wanted to revive it for Mauer and Morneau.
reply
Might I suggest hockey line nicknames for next week?
reply
Definitely.
reply
Not quite a succinct phrase, but I always liked "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain.”...
reply
One of the best.

What happened with Minnesota last night?
They couldn’t stop the dynamic duo in Dallas
reply
And Dallas shot poorly from 3. I was surprised they didn’t lock them down better. Let’s see if they adjust in game 2.
