Inside Schengen Area there are no border controls by default, nobody stops you or checks passport when crossing country border, and you can do so if going with personal transport (preferably, not yours, as there are number plate recognition all around nowadays).
Ironically, its much easier to enter the EU from north Africa, you just need to burn your passport and hop in a little boat, then there are no questions asked!

It's as if this was a border crossing between two hostile dystopian police states.
It really drags down the excitement of traveling doesn’t it.
Guess people will be more flying and less using that train.
