This article from the Financial Post suggests recent cpi data from Canada (2.7% and declining m.o.m) paves the way for a June rate cut from the Bank of Canada. That would definitely signify 2% is no longer the target.

It’s really odd. Is it just the financial sector applying pressure, because they miss low interest rates?
At least in the US, I don’t see rate cuts coming until CPI is under control.
It seems like it would not be wise for Canada to cut rates before the US does.

I think the Bank of Canada is very concerned about the insane debt levels of Canadian households and the real estate sector, which has propped up the economy for two decades, crashing.
Whereas I think the fed is more concerned about the bond market in the US.
Both likely to capitulate before inflation under control as they are forced to choose between the lesser of two evils.

Wouldn’t the capital flight be insane if Canada unilaterally cuts rates?

I am sure there will be some but taxation on foreign investment can be onerous depending on what you own and under what structure.

I’m sure it is a three year low, but that doesn’t mean much when three years ago was the ATH.

Just seems odd that Canada is the only place that is doing well.

Canada’s economy is lagging which is why inflation is declining. So doing well on the inflation front but not broadly.
