Some people may have missed, but Amazon's groundbreaking shop where you pick stuff, walk off and get billed for the items you carried out of the store was ditched by Amazon. It supposedly used computer vision and AI to know which products the customers picked but in reality it were 1000 people in India doing the job.
Bare in mind it wasn't 1000 people keeping tabs on all customers, there were devs, managers, IT people, etc. Stil this is bad. Their AI, if it really exists, is not that great and will never be. Amazon scrapped the project.
AI was overhyped, the promisses were exaggerated and everybody got caught up in the AI buble. It's a shame. The true usefulness of AI is to automate relatively complex tasks, but it needs tons of human input and supervision.
