For years, my answer was "Saga Frontier," but we finally got that a couple of years back.
My first choice: The Phantasie RPG series from SSI:
My super-obscure choice: An old TRS-80 shooter called Time Bandit whose Atari ST port was a blast.
I don't know either of them, but the little I'm seeing of the second shooter you've shared I like it.
