At the very least it would allow SN moderators to notice users that have a high rate of spam reports and then decide what, if anything, they may want to do about it.
I say this because of @pdmccombs endless barrage of garbage posts which I assume he's doing in order to game the system and get some sats.
I'm wary of going the moderation route - it's too subjective. I like the market based system of SN. In the spirit of Bitcoin, spam can be prevented by increasing the cost to post with each successive post. The cost can rise exponentially or polynomially in the number of posts without upvotes. If a post gets upvoted, then it won't add to your posting cost because the post has added value.
I guess this is not entirely secure against sybil attacks because a user can create multiple accounts to upvote their own posts. I forgot if there was an account creation fee, but if there was then that'd be a solution
All very valid points as well as potentially good solutions! I 100% agree. It's a fine line to walk but this guy's posts are starting to just clutter up the feed and I suspect that as SN popularity grows, this will be a more common occurrence and one that needs to be addressed.
Posts created the same day could get exponentially more expensive to create...
That's a good potential solution.
Ant lease we need hide or block feature, let user handle by themselves..
Moderation is subjective and not scalable
Yes! This would be great!
Wow. seems like recent page blew up overnight. Sad that these spammers always try to ruin a good thing.
